North Vancouver Receives Funding for Marine Drive Bridge Replacement
Project approved under Canada’s Small Communities Fund
City of North Vancouver, British Columbia, March 11, 2017— Member of Parliament Jonathan Wilkinson, North Vancouver, and Naomi Yamamoto, MLA, North Vancouver-Lonsdale, today announced that residents of North Vancouver will benefit from the replacement of the Marine Drive Bridge over Mosquito Crreek, thanks to joint funding from the governments of Canada and British Columbia through the Small Communities Fund. This investment is an important measure taken to ensure the long-term integrity of our community infrastructure.
The project’s scope includes demolition of existing bridge, construction of a new single span, 20m long, 6 lane bridge, bike lanes and full width pedestrian sidewalks in both directions and replacement of water, sewer, natural gas, communication and district energy utilities on the bridge.
Through the Small Communities Fund, the governments of Canada and British Columbia are working in partnership to provide funding for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs in communities across the province that have fewer than 100,000 residents. These investments support job creation and economic growth, thus sustaining a high quality of life in small communities across British Columbia for years to come.
“We are proud to invest in projects like the Marine Drive Bridge that will benefit our community by improving critical local infrastructure. Our Government’s commitment to municipalities, big and small, has never been stronger. Through the Small Communities Fund, we are investing in infrastructure projects that have a positive and lasting impact on the quality of life of British Columbians while helping create middle class jobs and promote economic growth.”
Member of Parliament for North Vancouver
“We are working hard to support the economic growth of communities like North Vancouver with improved infrastructure that addresses local concerns – like traffic flow. The funding from this grant is result of that hard work being set into action. People will appreciate being able to spend less time in traffic and more time on the things that matter to them.”
